Canada check

eToro holds licences outside Canada but is not registered with CIRO or any provincial securities regulator. If it accepts you, your account will normally be opened with an offshore group entity rather than its better-regulated subsidiaries — so CIPF coverage, CIRO margin rules and OBSI complaint handling do not apply. eToro does not offer its platform to Canadian residents.

Our take on eToro

eToro is the best-known social and copy-trading platform, listed on NASDAQ since 2025. It is not available to Canadian residents. Canadians interested in copy trading should read our copy-trading guide before using any unregistered service.

eToro's CopyTrader and social feed made it the world's best-known social trading platform, and its 2025 NASDAQ listing added public-company disclosure. Canadian residents can't open accounts. If copy trading is what interests you, read our guide first: in Canada, anyone who effectively manages your trades generally needs to be registered, which is why regulated copy trading is scarce here.

Verify eToro yourself

  1. Look for the firm on CIRO's list of dealers it regulates.
  2. Search the legal entity name in the CSA National Registration Search and check it is registered in your province.
  3. Confirm CIPF membership in the CIPF member directory.
  4. Search the CSA investor alerts for the brand name and any look-alike websites.
  5. Make sure the account agreement you sign names the same legal entity — not an offshore affiliate.

eToro: frequently asked questions

Is eToro regulated in Canada?

No. eToro is not registered with CIRO or any provincial or territorial securities regulator, although it holds licences elsewhere (United Kingdom, Cyprus (EU), Australia, United States, Seychelles). Canadian protections such as CIPF coverage and OBSI complaint handling do not apply.

Can Canadians open an account with eToro?

No. At our last check eToro did not accept Canadian residents. Using a VPN or false address to get around this breaches the broker's terms and can put your funds at risk.
