FP Markets Canada Review: Is It Regulated in Canada?

Not registered in CanadaAccepts Canadian residents

By ForexCanada Editorial Team · Updated

Canada check

FP Markets holds licences outside Canada but is not registered with CIRO or any provincial securities regulator. If it accepts you, your account will normally be opened with an offshore group entity rather than its better-regulated subsidiaries — so CIPF coverage, CIRO margin rules and OBSI complaint handling do not apply. At our last check FP Markets accepted Canadian residents through its offshore entity (e.g. Seychelles or Mauritius), not its ASIC- or CySEC-licensed companies.

Our take on FP Markets

FP Markets is a well-established Australian broker founded in 2005, with strong reviews for pricing and platform choice — MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. The catch for Canadians is structural: the ASIC and CySEC-regulated companies do not onboard Canadian residents, so any Canadian account sits with an offshore subsidiary where protections are weaker. The old version of this site called FP Markets 'best for high leverage' — true, but high leverage is precisely what Canadian rules are designed to limit.

Verdict

Among the stronger offshore choices on pricing and platforms. Use it knowingly, with a small balance, or choose a CIRO dealer.

What we like

  • +Raw spreads with competitive commission
  • +MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView
  • +Long track record

Watch out for

  • −Canadian accounts sit with an offshore subsidiary
  • −High leverage increases risk of rapid losses
  • −Not registered in Canada — no CIPF, CIRO or OBSI protection

How FP Markets scores

Canadian protection carries 40% of the weight, so an unregistered firm can't outrank a registered one on price alone. See the full methodology.
