ForexCanada.ca started in 2020 as a comparison site for Canadians interested in currency trading. Like most sites in this niche, it was funded by broker referral fees, and — we'll be honest — its rankings reflected that. Offshore brokers that paid well were listed as "best in Canada", pages promoted deposit bonuses that registered Canadian dealers aren't allowed to offer, and at least one recommended broker had been barred by CIRO from opening new accounts.

In 2026 we rebuilt the site from scratch around a simple question every Canadian should ask before depositing a dollar: is this firm actually allowed to serve me?

What we do

  • Check registration. Every broker profile starts with its Canadian status, checked against CIRO's dealer list, the CSA National Registration Search, the CSA list of authorized crypto platforms and CIPF's member directory.
  • Compare registered brokers honestly. Costs, platforms, product range and Canadian convenience — with province restrictions spelled out.
  • Explain the rules. Plain-English guides on regulation, taxes, TFSA rules and the risks of leveraged trading, with sources.
  • Build useful tools. Calculators that work in Canadian dollars and Canadian time zones, using Bank of Canada data.
  • Warn about scams. We label offshore and barred firms clearly and publish how to report fraud.

What we don't do

  • We don't rank unregistered firms above registered ones — ever. The formula is on our methodology page.
  • We don't publish "sponsored reviews" or sell top spots.
  • We don't give personal financial advice. We're publishers, not advisers or dealers.

How we're funded

Some brokers pay us when a reader opens an account through our links. That funding keeps the site free. It doesn't affect registration status, scores or the order of rankings — see our advertiser disclosure for the details.

The team

The ForexCanada editorial team researches Canadian broker registration, fees and platforms, and writes our guides and calculators. We check registration against CIRO's dealer list and the CSA National Registration Search, and we update broker profiles at least every six months or when a regulator announces a change.

We welcome corrections. If you see an error — a fee that changed, a broker that stopped accepting your province — please tell us. We aim to review corrections within five business days.

Contact

Email [email protected] or use our contact form. For suspected scams, use the report form and contact your provincial regulator.
