Editorial policy

Our standards

  1. Primary sources first. Regulatory facts come from regulators (CIRO, the CSA and provincial commissions, CIPF, the Bank of Canada, the CRA). Broker facts come from brokers' own legal disclosures. We link sources in our guides.
  2. Registration before features. Every broker profile states whether the firm is registered to serve Canadians before anything else.
  3. Plain language. We explain rules without jargon and say clearly when something is uncertain or varies by province.
  4. No guarantees, no hype. We don't describe trading as a path to easy income, and we include risk information wherever leveraged products are discussed.
  5. Independence. Commercial partners can't review, edit or approve our content, and can't pay for placement.

How content is produced

Guides are researched and written by our editorial team, then checked against primary sources before publication. Broker profiles combine a structured data record (registration, platforms, products, fees) with an editorial summary. When we use tools, including software assistance, to draft or check content, an editor reviews every fact and figure before publication.

Updates

Every guide and profile shows the date it was last reviewed. We re-check:

  • broker profiles at least every six months;
  • regulatory guides when rules change;
  • tax content each year and when budgets change;
  • Bank of Canada data automatically (rates refresh hourly from the Bank's public API).

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and, for material errors, note the correction. Report errors through our contact form — we aim to respond within five business days.

Reader reviews

Reader reviews are moderated for relevance, abuse and personal information. We don't edit reviews to change their meaning, and we don't remove negative reviews because a broker asks us to. Reviews never affect scores.
