Offshore Forex Brokers That Accept Canadians — and the Real Risks

By ForexCanada Editorial Team · Updated

Many Canadians end up at offshore brokers for understandable reasons: higher leverage, lower minimums, MetaTrader or cTrader options, or because they live in Alberta and hit a wall. This page exists because pretending those brokers don't exist doesn't help anyone.

Here's the reality. None of the firms below is registered in Canada. When they accept Canadians, they do so through subsidiaries in places like Seychelles, Vanuatu, Mauritius, Belize or St. Vincent — not through the Australian, UK or EU companies whose licences appear in their marketing. You'd have no CIPF coverage, no CIRO margin rules or negative-balance protections to rely on, and no OBSI. If the firm refuses a withdrawal, your realistic options are limited.

If you still choose an offshore broker, keep the balance small, withdraw profits regularly, never use a firm that appears on a CSA investor alert, and read our offshore broker risk guide.

How we picked

  • Accepted Canadian residents at our last check
  • Licence quality shown for each broker (top-tier vs offshore)
  • Scored with the same methodology — which caps unregistered firms well below registered ones

Full details in our methodology. We may earn a commission from some brokers; it never affects the order. Disclosure.

The ranking (7)

  1. #1

    Fusion Markets

    Not registered in Canada

Best for: Cost-focused MetaTrader/cTrader traders who understand offshore risk

Fusion Markets built its brand on low costs: its Zero account pairs raw spreads with one of the lowest commissions in the industry, and there is no minimum deposit. Platform choice is excellent (MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView). Like other Australian brokers, however, Fusion onboards Canadians through an offshore entity rather than its ASIC-licensed company. For a Canadian trader, the savings versus a CIRO dealer are real — but so is the loss of CIPF and Canadian complaint handling.

    FP Markets

    Not registered in Canada

Best for: Experienced traders who want cTrader/TradingView and raw pricing, and accept offshore risk

FP Markets is a well-established Australian broker founded in 2005, with strong reviews for pricing and platform choice — MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. The catch for Canadians is structural: the ASIC and CySEC-regulated companies do not onboard Canadian residents, so any Canadian account sits with an offshore subsidiary where protections are weaker. The old version of this site called FP Markets 'best for high leverage' — true, but high leverage is precisely what Canadian rules are designed to limit.

    easyMarkets

    Not registered in Canada

Best for: Traders who value fixed spreads and risk tools like dealCancellation

easyMarkets (formerly easy-forex) has been around since 2001 and differentiates itself with fixed spreads and risk-management features such as guaranteed stop-loss and 'dealCancellation', which lets you undo a trade within an hour for a fee. It supports MetaTrader and TradingView. Canadians are served by an offshore entity rather than its EU or Australian companies.

    FXCC

    Not registered in Canada

Best for: MetaTrader users comfortable with offshore risk who want ECN-style pricing without commissions

FXCC is a Cyprus-based broker offering an ECN-style MetaTrader account with no separate commission and no minimum deposit. Its EU company is licensed by CySEC, but Canadians are not served by that entity — they are onboarded through the group's international arm, which is regulated far more lightly. FXCC topped this site's rankings in the past; under our current methodology, which puts Canadian protection first, it ranks below every CIRO-registered dealer. It remains a reasonable offshore option for experienced traders who understand what they are giving up.

    FXChoice

Offshore / not registered in Canada

Best for: Small-account MetaTrader traders comfortable with a Belize-licensed broker

FXChoice is a Belize-licensed MetaTrader broker that has long accepted North American clients that larger brokers turn away. Pricing on its Pro account is competitive and crypto deposits are supported. The regulatory protection is minimal by Canadian standards: Belize licensing offers little in the way of capital requirements or compensation schemes.

    IFC Markets

Offshore / not registered in Canada

Best for: Traders interested in synthetic 'portfolio' instruments on NetTradeX

IFC Markets has operated since 2006 and is licensed in the British Virgin Islands and Labuan (Malaysia) — both offshore jurisdictions. Its distinctive feature is the NetTradeX platform and 'Portfolio Quoting Method', which lets traders build synthetic instruments from baskets of assets. For Canadians, the regulatory picture is thin: no top-tier licence and no Canadian registration.

    LegacyFX

    Not registered in Canada

LegacyFX is a CFD brand with an EU entity and an offshore entity that serves most international clients. Its account tiers are built around higher minimum deposits and relationship-manager style service. For Canadians, the offshore entity means no Canadian regulatory protection, and we found less transparency on pricing than at leading brokers.

Frequently asked questions

Is it illegal to use an offshore forex broker in Canada?

Canadian securities law requires firms that trade with or solicit Canadian residents to be registered; the obligation falls on the firm. Clients generally aren't prosecuted, but you lose Canadian protections and regulators routinely warn against these firms.

Why do offshore brokers offer 500:1 leverage?

Because offshore regulators don't cap it. High leverage makes accounts easy to open with little money — and easy to lose. Canadian and other major regulators cap retail leverage precisely because of that.
