Our take on CMC Markets Canada
CMC Markets is a London-listed firm founded in 1989, and CMC Markets Canada Inc. is its CIRO-registered Canadian dealer. Its standout feature is breadth: a very large list of currency pairs (including many crosses and emerging-market currencies) plus thousands of CFDs on indices, commodities, shares and bonds. The in-house Next Generation platform is excellent for charting and pattern recognition, and MT4 is available for those who prefer it. Pricing is spread-based with no minimum deposit. As with other Canadian CFD dealers, Alberta residents face additional eligibility requirements.
Verdict
The best choice among Canadian dealers if you want variety — lots of currency pairs and CFDs under one CIPF-eligible account — and a powerful proprietary platform.
What we like
- +Very wide range of currency pairs and CFDs
- +Powerful proprietary web platform with advanced charting
- +Publicly listed parent company
- +No minimum deposit
Watch out for
- −Alberta residents generally need accredited-investor status
- −Platform depth can overwhelm beginners
- −Share CFDs are not a substitute for owning shares in a TFSA/RRSP
How CMC Markets Canada scores
Canadian protection carries 40% of the weight, so an unregistered firm can't outrank a registered one on price alone. See the full methodology.
