Is Deriv Available in Canada? (2026 Check)
By ForexCanada Editorial Team · Updated
Canada check
Deriv holds licences outside Canada but is not registered with CIRO or any provincial securities regulator. If it accepts you, your account will normally be opened with an offshore group entity rather than its better-regulated subsidiaries — so CIPF coverage, CIRO margin rules and OBSI complaint handling do not apply. Deriv lists Canada among the countries it does not serve.

Our take on Deriv
Deriv (formerly Binary.com) offers MT5 CFDs, synthetic indices and option-style contracts. Canada is on its list of restricted countries, and its short-term option contracts resemble products banned for Canadians.
Deriv's synthetic indices — computer-generated price series available around the clock — and its short-term option contracts are central to its business. Canada appears on its list of restricted countries, and many of its short-duration contracts are functionally similar to binary options, which are prohibited for Canadian individuals.
What we like
- +Synthetic indices available 24/7 (outside Canada)
Watch out for
- −Does not serve Canada
- −Binary-style products
- −Not registered in Canada — no CIPF, CIRO or OBSI protection
How Deriv scores
Canadian protection carries 40% of the weight, so an unregistered firm can't outrank a registered one on price alone. See the full methodology.

Verify Deriv yourself
- Look for the firm on CIRO's list of dealers it regulates.
- Search the legal entity name in the CSA National Registration Search and check it is registered in your province.
- Confirm CIPF membership in the CIPF member directory.
- Search the CSA investor alerts for the brand name and any look-alike websites.
- Make sure the account agreement you sign names the same legal entity — not an offshore affiliate.

Deriv: frequently asked questions
Is Deriv regulated in Canada?
No. Deriv is not registered with CIRO or any provincial or territorial securities regulator, although it holds licences elsewhere (Malta, British Virgin Islands, Vanuatu, Malaysia (Labuan)). Canadian protections such as CIPF coverage and OBSI complaint handling do not apply.
Can Canadians open an account with Deriv?
No. At our last check Deriv did not accept Canadian residents. Using a VPN or false address to get around this breaches the broker's terms and can put your funds at risk.
Does Deriv offer MetaTrader?
Yes — Deriv supports MT5.
