Our take on Fortrade Canada
Fortrade Canada Limited is a CIRO member, but it is not a realistic option for new Canadian clients. A CIRO temporary order issued in November 2022 bars it from opening new accounts or taking new deposits, and in March 2024 the firm settled CIRO allegations that it made prohibited trade recommendations to clients, agreeing to a $2 million penalty and a US$6 million compensation fund. Older comparison sites (including earlier versions of this one) recommended Fortrade for mobile trading; that recommendation no longer stands.
Verdict
Not recommended. If you are an existing client, read CIRO's decision and check whether you are eligible for the compensation fund.
What we like
- +Existing accounts remain with a CIRO member firm
- +Compensation fund created for eligible past clients
Watch out for
- −Cannot open new accounts under a CIRO temporary order
- −Sanctioned by CIRO in 2024 for prohibited recommendations
- −Proprietary platform only
How Fortrade Canada scores
Canadian protection carries 40% of the weight, so an unregistered firm can't outrank a registered one on price alone. See the full methodology.

Fortrade Canada: frequently asked questions
Is Fortrade Canada regulated in Canada?
No. Fortrade Canada is not registered with CIRO or any provincial or territorial securities regulator, although it holds licences elsewhere (Canada, United Kingdom, Cyprus (EU), Australia, Mauritius). Canadian protections such as CIPF coverage and OBSI complaint handling do not apply.
Can Canadians open an account with Fortrade Canada?
No. At our last check Fortrade Canada did not accept Canadian residents. Using a VPN or false address to get around this breaches the broker's terms and can put your funds at risk.

Did not serve Québec residents.
