Our take on Bybit

Bybit is a large offshore crypto derivatives exchange that exited Canada in 2023. Crypto derivatives with high leverage are not offered to Canadian retail investors by authorized platforms.

Bybit built its business on perpetual futures and high-leverage crypto derivatives — products that authorized Canadian crypto platforms can't offer to retail clients. Rather than restructure its offering, Bybit withdrew from Canada. Canadians who want regulated crypto exposure can use CSA-authorized platforms for spot crypto or Canadian-listed crypto ETFs through a registered brokerage.

Verify Bybit yourself

  1. Check the CSA list of authorized crypto trading platforms for the company operating Bybit.
  2. Search the legal entity name in the CSA National Registration Search and check it is registered in your province.
  3. Search the CSA investor alerts for the brand name and any look-alike websites.
  4. Make sure the account agreement you sign names the same legal entity — not an offshore affiliate.

Bybit: frequently asked questions

Is Bybit regulated in Canada?

No. Bybit is not registered with CIRO or any provincial or territorial securities regulator. Canadian protections such as CIPF coverage and OBSI complaint handling do not apply.

Can Canadians open an account with Bybit?

No. At our last check Bybit did not accept Canadian residents. Using a VPN or false address to get around this breaches the broker's terms and can put your funds at risk.
