Our take on Bitbuy
Bitbuy is one of the longest-running Canadian-built crypto platforms and was among the first to become a registered crypto trading platform under Canadian securities law. It offers a simple 'Express' buy/sell mode and a 'Pro' order-book mode with lower maker/taker fees, CAD funding by Interac e-Transfer, and a moderate list of coins. Its parent, WonderFi, also owns Coinsquare and Coinberry, and agreed in 2025 to be acquired by Robinhood.
Verdict
A safe default for Canadians buying mainstream crypto. Use Pro mode to avoid paying the Express spread.
What we like
- +Registered Canadian platform
- +Interac e-Transfer funding in CAD
- +Pro mode with order book
Watch out for
- −Express mode spreads are costly
- −Smaller coin list than global exchanges
- −CIPF does not cover crypto
How Bitbuy scores
Canadian protection carries 40% of the weight, so an unregistered firm can't outrank a registered one on price alone. See the full methodology.
